Anyone have an opinion advice on the Toshiba 37X3030DB lcd? Is it any good.

I am considering one, mainly because one of my mates works for Toshiba so can get a good discount

The Toshiba 37X3030DB got a very average three-star rating when we tested it last year - simply doesn't live up to either its specification or the standards of the competition. How much can you get it for?

I noticed on Amazon, it rates 4.5 from 5 stars by users who have purchased it.

That's fair enough, but I bet they haven't tested it side-by-side with all its competitors like we have!

It's not a bad set, but you can buy better - though not for under £500.

We haven't tested that particular model, but the 'Z' series Toshibas have impressed us far more than the X models. For £630 you could be getting a very good buy indeed there...(though with the 37in Panasonic plasma - the TH37PX80 - avaialble for not much more than that in shops, you might want to have a good hard look at that before you part with your cash.)

Out of interest ,i have just read Home Cinema Choice'sreview of the 37X3030D, and it was their top choice for 37', as they reckoned it was outstanding value for money ( "hugely outperforms it's price point" was their verdict). It also scored very highly on the recent Which? report for LCDs.

Home Cinema Choice doesn't comparatively review in dedicated facilities using a team of expert testers. Neither does Which (great for washing machines, hopelessly off the mark for consumer electronics). We do.

But feel free to make your own mind up
