Sounds about right. I paid something like that for mine a year later.

Probably £600-1,000! I bought two pairs a few years ago, including one pair in their original box! Done nothing with them though due to space and other restrictions. I suppose I should move them on and let someone enjoy them!

Tannoy Berkeley. They had 15" dual concentrics and were a complete joy.

They cost me exactly £3oo brand new, although I don't think that was exactly 'budget' at the time.

Had to lose mine when I moved and just didn't have a big enough listening room for them. :boohoo: :boohoo: :boohoo:

I have been looking at figures for the average weekly wage in 1964 and it seems to be about £16 - £18 (depending on source).

£300 would not be the price for a pair of 'budget' speakers if they cost over 18 weeks average income.

I have just checked my father's diaries (they go back to 1965) and he was earning about £26 a week (with overtime) as a skilled miller/lather in a local engineering company in 1966.
