Too late? Gimmick or a good idea?

I honestly can't see that working especially of it's aiming at a portable market, why would you want to carry that as a secondary item and a heap of discs around when you have a phone with you that can hold thousands of songs or stream from a choice of 100 million.

If it was home based and offered significantly better quality than CD .... maybe some people may be interested but it'd be a small and shrinking market especially as you'd have to buy all your media again, interesting to know what an album / disc would cost.

Gimmick at best but a Gimmick I don't think anyone would buy.

I bought a 512gb SD card for my phone for that reason. CD's ripped to my NAS in flac and then download to my SD card in my phone or the SD card in my Sony NWA55.

I did similar ... bought same size SD, was using Amazon Music Unlimited at the time and downloaded their Hi Res tracks / my playlists to the card so I had them available offline rather than using mobile data.
