Toddler won’t leave my speakers alone

Hey, I have a pretty modest AV system currently, a Marantz SR7007 and Monitor audio BR speakers. The BR5 floor standers are currently in storage as I have a toddler and the speakers are quite precarious. I put the center speaker away as well, that’s a BX not a BR and as its magnetic covers toddler loved pulling that off. That leaves me in stereo mode using the BR1 bookshelves on the tv stand as main speakers but toddler won’t leave those alone either!

Thinking of a new system that prioritises music rather than film as I’m not listening to loud action films anymore. I like the idea of one box amplification with hdmi in, airplay etc. I would like a quality sound but wouldn’t consider myself an audiophile, I don’t want to be chasing incremental gains. The system would need to sound decent with TV dialogue but it’s not the priority.

I like the idea of ATC HTS7 On-Wall Speakers either side of the TV. I understand they need a pretty hefty transformer to get the best out of them. I can’t demo them but I can demo the bookshelf equivalents, apparently they sound close to identical as they are both sealed designs and the same volume body. I can demo the bookshelves at home, assuming the old marantz won’t cut it but am going to try anyway. I’d like to demo a new amp against the old receiver.

Do you think the ATC are a good shout? What would be a good amp recommendation? Thinking roughly a grand on speakers and another grand on the amp, is this likely? My knowledge is a decade out of date so wouldn’t surprise me if not.

Or are there any better solutions? As long as it’s on the wall safely out the way I’m open to ideas. Thanks 🙂

Have a look at the Marantz 70s it has plenty of HDMIs ,air play and HEOS all in one box and well within your budget . I have one it sounds great plenty of power. Speaker wise depends on the size of the room and what sort of sound you like,thats a personal choice.

I had twins and at the same time had one of those little play pens for babies that gave them freedom of movement but let you potter round the house knowing they were safe.

The pen could fold away for storage but as my two grew, I just lined it up fully open in front of the sideboard on which the then stereo sat and it gave enough distance for wandering little hands not to touch. Effectively, it became like a fence! I never had a problem with the kids touching the Mission 752s I had at the time.

Wall speakers seem like a good idea, your toddler not going to pull them out the wall is she?

Sonos In-Wall Speakers might be the practical solution and not unreasonable price wise.

Wouldn’t work for us unfortunately as the bottom of the tv is lower than the top of the play pen.

A nice idea but it’s dot dabbed plaster board on to thermalite block, I’d need to take a big chunk of the block work out and not sure how I feel about that. Thanks for the thought though.

It had crossed my mind the thought of the speakers getting pulled off the wall but I have some ideas to make sure it’s safe.

I have indeed at first i put the 7000 aside when i got the 70s then after a while i decided to use both.The 70s for TV/ HDMI and the 7000 for Stereo.

Theres very little between them has i have both may as well use them both.
They are both very good Amps. I needed more HDMI inputs that's why i got the 70s .

We share some of the same issues. I had to move the Oberon 5s into the office for todler safety reasons. He did manage to knock one over and put a very small dent in it ... which I fumed over for a few days; and then just got on with life.

I moved to a Sonos Arc set up (not the answer I expect you are after) for movies and then some Oberon 1s in a compromised position for stereo.

Yesterday was another watershed moment as he moved his set of steps over to the sideboard so he could get higher and play with the stereo ... watch this space!
