Okay - different knowledge set required here. My son (in big trouble) has put nail varnish on the TV screen (also the door & the kitchen floor). I have tested nail varnish remover which did nothing. It would appear that nail varnish remover only removes nail varnish from nails - go figure. I can sand & revarnish the wooden door and it came off the floor easily enough with some gentle scraping. neither of these options will work well with the TV though. Tried some water/vinegar solution without success. Also windolene not effective. Any other ideas?

It was orange coloured pencil with mine. The scratches are still there.

Anyway, I'm surprised that nail varnish remover doesn't work - are you sure you're using a proper acetone-based one, as opposed to some of the wussy environmentally-friendly ones you can get now? Ought to work fine, though it's a solvent so you could end up melting the screen, depending on its composition.

You may be better waiting for it to dry completely and picking it off gently with your fingernails, especially if the screen is smooth and glossy, as opposed to anti-glare and textured.

Given that the screen may well be plastic, and the nature of nail varnish, chances are it won't come off without serious damage.

And even if it's glass, you'll probably find that anything able to take the varnish off is also going to remove any anti-reflective coating on the screen.

Do you have an all-risks insurance policy?

This may require a new display panel, or a new cover sheet, or a new TV - I'd talk to the manufacturer in question...

Right then. I am using a proper nail varnish remover (which I tried in the corner first) which didn't do anything - but also didnt damage anything either. I have carefully removed about 95% of it with my fingernail now it is dry but something has happened to the screen underneath. Probably the anti reflective coating as postulated. I do have a good insurance policy which I am now going to look for. It is just the 32" Phillips lounge TV on which we just watch the news and masterchef etc so it may not be a total loss. Films & major sporting events are on the projector in the cellar - the door to which is about to be fitted with a lock!!

Ive got razor wire with 100000 volts running through it arount my plasma!

Lets get to the heart of the problem...

Have you tried fostering or going the whole hog and adopting. I hear that Brad and Angelina are in the market again. Who know, they may px an old tv for you.

matthewpiano:Kids do things. It could have been worse. It could have been the child that was damaged.

You can make children for free, hell the guv'mint will even give you money for having them, TVs are expensive!

But money isn't the most important thing in the world.

May the record show that Mr Duncan heard heard rather too slowly, and was thus misconstrued...

Are you insane? You can't come around here on the What Hi-Fi Shiny Shiny Consumer Widgetry forum saying things like that! You start telling people things like "money isn't important" and we'll all be out of a job before you know it......

oh...

Interesting.

What mains cable are you using? Trev79, you got any suggestions? ;-)

A little bit of a side bar but related,

I've got a little one on the way and, as I live in rented accommodation, my masterplan of building AV equipment shelves that hang from the ceiling will have to wait. In the old days, when I were a littlin, my dad's kit was in a rack that had a nice glass door on the front of it that didn't keep me out of the thing entirely but prevented bordom induced random button pushing. The whole concept of this kind of thing seems to have disappeared in favour of the open-air glass stylie racks that seem to abound nowadays. Gorgeous they may be, but the invitation for said toddler to start pulling at cables from the back is a new feature of this kind of setup that never even crossed my young mind.

Any suggestions out there for something more of the functional variety that will provide daddy a small amount of hope once the rugrat gets mobile?

PS. I have to admit to it as it's been eating my conscience for years, I was the one who fed my dad's 8 track a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
