Hi, I have been looking for a TV to replace a Sony 32" CRT. Decided 40" - 42" is the best move but stuck between a few TV's from different manufacturers. In no particular order: Panasonic PZ4270B - Full HD 1080 screen but one ugly TV> I don't particularly like the speakers down the side of the boz which widens it considerably. Samsung LE40M86BD 40" LCD online from Currys (£855 delivered) - again full HD 1080P but can't get a demo with SC via either built in tuner or freeview/SKY source. Panasonic PX4270B - not Full HD - I already have SKY HD and if I have the opportunity to watch 1080i via SKY without processing, this TV should be ruled out due to downscaling of the signal? Sony KDL40V3000 - can't find this TV around local retailers including Sony Centres (2 around here and neither have it in stock). I also can't find a price locally for this so it may be too much anyway. Can't stretch to 40W3000 (£1799). Any and all advice accepted... Cheers, Cofnchtr.

Our Best Buy budget 40-42in this year is the Panasonic TH-42PX70 plasma. Yes, it's 'only' HD-ready, but it will handle Sky HD no problem, whether 720p or 1080i. It can even handle Blu-ray discs at 24fps, and although it obviously has to downscale the image, the results are still spectacular. So as we always say, don't get hung up on the specs - the Panasonic is a cracking buy, and there are some great deals to be had if you shop around.

Yup, we've got a review of the Samsung LE46F86BDX coming up in the December issue of WHFSV and the Ultimate Guide to New Technology (on sale Dec 6). Haven't seen the 40in 'F' yet though.

Hi,

OK, went for the Panasonic TH42PX70B at my local shop - 5 year warranty F.O.C.

Sale was sealed when I saw a Bravia V3000 at local Sony dealership - not a good DVB picture on standard def through the aerial.

Also went to local Currys/Comet and Samsung and Panny were next to each other -- the difference was astounding.

Now thinking of Sony Blu-Ray BDP300 (I think that's the model no.) £350 with Blu-Ray Spiderman 1, 2 & 3 F.O.C.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

Have you considered the PS3 over the BDP-S300 ? Although I've seen the latter at less than £280 delivered (but without spiders!), price isn't everything.

Andy you may have noticed that I have written a few postings on ''what'' T.V to buy as I was thinking of the Sony KDLW3000 but Clare kinda talked me into thinking that the plasma was the way to go. I have got to say most of my viewing will be watching sports on cable t.v and movies on the movie channels both in normal digital (I'm thinking you call this sd ?)

Do you think I should go for the Pana PZ70...... or do you think that the Pana PX70 would meet with my needs ?

Hi,

I have considered the PS3 as an option. Son is sitting exams this May and told him if he does well, he can have one. Didn't want to end up with 2 PS3's in the house (already have 3 PS2's!). Prepared to wait for a Blu-Ray DVD player though so no hurry. Hoping some will come out in time for Christmas and choice will be more varied.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.
