Hi all, currently have sky+ and with new tv was mulling over decision about HD, especailly with world cup on the horizion, even though we are not in it anyhow that's another story, but really asking is it worth paying the extra €15 a month with my current knowledge & variety pack, many thanks in advance to all who reply.

I don't know Sky (I have BBC Freesat) so can't comment specifically other than to say if your Knowledge pack includes things like Discovery and other Natural History then I'd say yes. Natural History really excels in HD.

As for football, I suggest you watch the next match on BBC HD or ITV HD at a pub somewhere. The main difference is that you can see very blade of grass on the pitch and the stands, supporters and commentary team are clear rather than blurry. Personally I like HD for sport.

Thanks for that.

I have just found out that as an existing customer I will cost me more to get hd than a new customer, surely this is wrong and on principal I will not be paying to extra levy as an existing customer, has anyone else experienced this as it is an outrage to treat existing customers like this, why why why why.

New customers always get a better deal than existing punters. We are in the Rip-Off age!!!!

chudleighpaul:New customers always get a better deal than existing punters.Exactly!

So i don't see theres an issue. Every subscriber has been a new subscriber at some point and would have had whatever deal was going at the time....

Sky are a business, and not in the habit of dishing out new equipment for gratis, everytime an existing customer fancies an upgrade...

If people dont like those terms they have a choice!!!

Not necessary so in my experience

I understand that point but trying to hold on the your customers is also an important issue and in my experience some are better than other at keeping a valued customer happy

Dish, cables, etc are in place and the box is the only issue here and there is a charge but a bit more for existing customers.

Very limited choice in the Rep. of Ireland I must say and future indications are not that promising.

Are you in or out of contract with your existing SKY+ subscription ?. I had a SKY HD box that I bought myself, however I did not have the HD package as I just wanted the additional space on the hard drive to record on for the kids. This box went faulty a couple of months ago, I spoke to SKY and they sent an engineer out to repair. They couldn't therefore they replaced my HD box with a brand new smaller 500Gb version - the total cost of this was £65.00.

Get the HD box if you can (and your TV can support it) but don't take the package as a previous poster said, both BBC HD and ITV HD are free to receive.

PS: I've heard or read somewhere that SKY are replacing faulty SKY+ boxes with HD boxes now FOC.

That's the problem Dermondo, we have Sky or Freesat here in most of Ireland with UPC dragging it's heals and only available in the City Centres. Freesat is an option but the HD chanel selection is very limited so Sky have the upper hand at the moment. I have just taken the plunge also and jumped ship from Upc to Sky for that very reason and have to say the deal is pretty good, cheaper than Upc per month and I get HD which I didn't have access to before...I have to have one of those horrible dishes though...c'est la vie !!

Incidentally. for anone doing multiroom installation in more than one other spare room, it was recommended to me to get an old Sky box and just order a replacement card, then the cost is only ?7.50 a month extra...not a bad saving over the ?69 they wanted for a standard box and ?30 for installation !!!

Can't wait for the HD programmes now...roll on the world cup and rest of F1 season (is that in HD at all anyone?)
