THX settings - what am I looking for?

Sorry to appear like a complete dunce and all, but can someone explain to me what you're supposed to set up your HD picture with the THX settings 'programme' that appears on some dvd box sets.

Six white and off white boxes, what are you supposed to do and what are you trying to match? thanks

Off the top of my head I thought each page told you what settings to adjust and what you were trying to achieve?

Not on mind it doesn't (on Aliens dvd) which is why I'm confused ....

Thinking about it, the page before each pattern tells you what you need to do, if memory serves.

They tell you on "Indiana Jones" dvds.

Some "Disneys" as well.

as I rememeber;

the six white boxes are for contrast adjustment

and the drop down THX background logo is for Brightness

However you will have to set your own Backlight Level to gain your optimum black to white brightness scale whilst using the THX programme

as the_lhc says, there is a complete commentary and instruction process for each of the demo and calbration pages
