I'm about to buy a Sony TA-1055 amp and I've just been offered to buy a Philips 70FB670/001 speakerset for cheap as well.

Now the amp is 20 wpc, but there's hardly any info on the Philips 70FB670/001. The seller states this '6 ohm Pmus 120W Pnom 70W' but I'm not sure what that means entirely.
What I really want to know is, will I be able to successfully drive those speakers with that amp or should I find something else instead?
Thanks!

I guess the 70W is the nominal max power handling, and the 120W the peak music handling - ie what the speakers can handle for momentary musical peaks.

Yes, the amp will drive them fine - how they will sound I haven't a clue.

How much is the seller asking for the speakers?

If I were you I'd be looking for something like mid-80s KEFs with that amp. A pair of Coda IIIs, C20s, or C30s would be a good buy for not much money. I'm temporarily driving my C30s with a 15wpc Sansui and they sound lovely.

I don't know anything about that particular Sony amp.

40$ for those speakers, which is next to nothing where I'm from. I can get my hands on Sansui es-200 for 80$. Thoughts?

Probably not much in it. The ES200 certainly isn't one of Sansui's better known speakers and, although they did make some decent speakers, they are mostly known for their amplifiers, tuners and turntables.

I think that with a budget of $80, you may do better with speakers especially if buying older models off ebay ....

search the forums and google and take your time .... dont rush

Alright so the sansui definitely isn't the greatest idea.

Here in Holland things work a tad differently when buying used products, 40$ for speakers of this size, original price and proximity to me is a great deal. The stands alone were 100$ new . For speakers produced in 1993 I'd say it's a pretty great deal.

have not heard them or heard of them .... not saying that it's a bad deal, just saying that you should take your time and do more research before commiting ...

I am sure that you will find lots of info on google
