Things I hate about Hifi

Many, it's almost an endless list but up there is when folks show their system/s and state it is humble when really, it costs an arm and a leg.

I know, humble means different things to different people but compared to what ... Absolute Sound's listening rooms?
That's not specific to hifi though - it's another example of people using things to talk in a coded way about being flush. Totally agree with you though.

Overlapping product from the same brand, essentially the same thing but has a supa-duper special addition but for that little extra, the costs is disproportional to the basic sibling brand.

Ps,
and all that cable chatter. Mavis would be displeased, SPAM SPAM SPAM..........

And it’s totally possible for existing legendary consumer audio manufacturers to sell a complete Hi-Fi system in only one large box with all the components inside it perfectly packaged.

That's just to make them appear modest...because nobody likes a show off - but it draws attention to the fact that showing off is precisely what they're doing.
It's a little harsh? 🤣
I think most people are just happy to share.

There's a natural equilibrium about it because, there's always someone who has something more grand but who cares, it isn't a competition, it's about the passion.

From my perspective, the real value is not what you own but what is inside you. Yep basically I'm from TEMU 🤣

I agree. It depends how you define a system as humble.

My set-up is humble, only because I upgrade in stages. I could never afford to splash mega thousands in one hit.

People. Especially the 'my use case is THE use case' crowd, and think they should be sticking their oar in on a system setup based on one photo of the room, with no comprehension that you can't hear with your eyes, nor do you know what else happens in said room.

Unavailability of a complete Hi-Fi system from the same brand that’s sold together and delivered in a single package to customers.
Aren’t there quite a few in fact, such as the Rega System One, and the colour series from Pro-ject?

In the good old days, nobody expected there to be universal competence, so the distinguishing thing about Hifi was that you bought a turntable, amp and speakers from different brands. That was sort of the point, to get the best. Otherwise you’d buy a music centre from Fergusson or Dynatron.

@nopiano Those aren’t Hi-Fi systems they are radio sound boxes.
Also, separates were for the turntable era.

I meant a complete Hi-Fi system that is sold together with a pair of floor standing loudspeakers, cables, connectors, digital music centre amplifier all packaged in one rigid futuristic cardboard box, like that of the Apple’s packaging’s equivalent of larger boxes, and with the full system tested and perfectly tuned in the factory to meet the highest quality standards of Hi-Fi listening at home. And a separate system sold with a sub woofer included for customers who prefer that.

Legendary audio manufacturers, like Bowers & Wilkins, don't sell such complete systems currently.
