can someone please help me, this receiver game is mashing my brain!

the sony 820 is available for around 350pounds the sony da2400 is available for 400 pounds and the denon 1909 is available for 450 pounds.

as far as i can make it the denon is similar in terms to the sony 820 and the sony 2400 is a step above.

i know about the problems regarding the two sony models and their availibility,

but if i can get the sony2400 at the 400pound mark would it not be criminal if i didnt choose it over the others?

can any of the team or anyone give some input on this as im struggling to make a choice here and feeedback would be great although i dont know how much feedback would be available for the 2 sonys that are being repaired.but if anyone can give a distinction against the 3 that would be great.

also would the new kef 2005.3 speakers be good enough for these receivers?

and finally does anyone know any confirmed dates of when the sony receivers will start to trickle through and will be available to purchase?

thanks for your help.

From what I've seen the DG820 is more around the £250 mark.

And the Denon is far closer in spec to the 2400ES. The 820 cannot upscale nor upconvert, both the 1909 and 2400ES can. The only extra feature the 2400ES has over the 1909 is pre-outs.

Yes it would once the problems are fixed, feature wise the 2400 is a step ahead of the 1900. Last thing I heard WHF were trying to get a review online this week, I have no idea when they'll hit the shops.ÿ

up here in scotland not too many specialist shops.

so which would you choose? the 2400 as it has pre outs and i could use them if i decided to add music to the system later!

i read november for the 2400 i cant wait that long!

what about the speakers are they good enough? can you get better for 700pounds?

Providing it sounds as good as the 1909 as well.

they sir are huge!!

i need smaller spekers as its a bedroom im turning into a home cinema!

but they will be able to maximise whichever receiver i use wont they?

how would i wall mount the speakers? drill holes in the base or something? or do i need to put them on small shelves?

so in your mind the 2400 is the better spec'd receiver?

so my new kit could be sony kdl40w4500, sony bdp550 and the 2400 receiver with the kef spekers! oh im liking that alot!!

Spec-wise the 2400ES and 1909 are identical apart from the 2400ES having pre-outs.

pre outs are a good thing to have! gives you options!

im just wairing for the reviews! i know that they were pulled until the problem is resolved, but i reckon that the 2400 will hose the 1909! but thats just a personal opinion based on how well the 820 did against the onk and the denon.

i just want reviews!!! not that speakers,tv and bd player seem to be decent.i need to know what the receiver is going to offer!

But you recommended it'd be criminal not to buy it on just the features. Just pointing out we need to know what it sounds like first.

Stone Audio are good for finding some rarer high end stuff but can be beaten price wise lower down the ranges. Have you no hifi dealers anywhere near you?ÿ

Superfi sell all the stuff you're after though and are very competitive.ÿ

I would be extremely surprised if the 2400 sounded anything less than brilliant for the price and I believe it would be criminal not to get pre-outs fro £50 or so extra

richer sounds are near me so i can try in there! and walk out with an LG apparently!!

this website has decent stockists but i doubt what hi fi will vouch for them, but just seen the tv i wanted from rgb for 933pounds, cheapest i had seen previously was 995!

think ill go stone audio for the receiver, just fired off an email about availability.

shame i cant find the kef speakers at a reduced price they are the same price everywhere!

thanks for all your help on this topic octopo,i have many question still, but you have answered alot regarding my choices for a home cinem set up.

The cheapest I've seen the 2400es is £450 and Superfi want £550. I'm going to hopefully demo the 3400es tomorrow and it's selling for £699. Cannot wait. I have the BDP550 (from Stone Audio - £295) on order to go with it.

ask me no questions i'll tell thee no lies!!

get that bad boy booked!! they will have to honour that price surely!

if they knew differently they would have changed it!

similar to the 295 for the 550bd player, it aint out yet but thats the price people are going for!
