Because there are one or two threads about the above telly and JL price matching I thought I would let you know on a new thread that you can get this TV on a price match (thanks for the encouragement Rewerb).

It was on S&V site at £562 on Sunday and after a few questions on this forum phoned JL MK with this price ,still thinking it was too big a drop.(3.00pm Sunday). On Monday at 12.00 I got the call from JL saying they would match at £564.89 which turned out to be the Monday price on S&V site.(so prices can go up as well as down).

I have just popped in to JL and paid so I am now comfortable relating this. However another post on this site states that JL MK would not price match (I think Monday/Tuesday) so it makes you wonder what the driving force behind the PM policy is.I have to say we are long term JL people and have spent loads over the years and our mastercard is JLP so it makes you think that they might favour long term partners and who can blame them.

One thing that does come to mind(paper, light, blue) is that this site does not "influence" people and the marketplace unduly,on the contrary it empowers them(us) to keep the retail industry competitive and on its toes, understanding what we want and at what price.

And I will not mention cables or hobnobs.Doh.

You were doing so well til then. Without the odd 'twice cooked' or QED reference, how do you expect to blend? Good sentiments on the price match though.

For 'cooked' please read 'baked'.

As far as I understand the price match policy if you tell us your price match code we can all benefit from the same price. Could you please share the code? I was recently offered 599.95 at Reading code 49615.
That would really be useful if you could tell me your code
thanks

Everyone has to go through the process!

As rewerb says, it does not work like that. Each code is unique to each price match.

Phone Sound and Vision and make sure it is in stock, then ring up yr local JL, reserve the item for a week,(this does not commit you to buy)get a customer reference number and then ask to price match with Sound and Vision at their current price. They will only price match if it is in stock and on display.Good luck.

From the another forum (AV)
Tips on geting a Price Match

* Follow the rules above (!). You will generally find more success by phoning the store directly and quoting the full details of the store you want to PM. They will typically get back to you within a few days and give you a PM reference number if you're successful. That PM is valid for 28 daysYou can email your PM, but most members have found greater success by phoning.
* If you fail to get a PM in one store, try calling another as there seems to be some differences in how stores apply the policy. If you get your PM from a faraway store, simply quote your PM reference number and your local store will honour it.
* If someone reports getting a PM at a store on here, you can get the same PM by quoting their name or PM reference number.

The final point suggests that you can get the same price match by making reference to the name or number of an existing price match. I understand that people might not want to share their name but why not their number?

ps i dont understand why there is no formatting in my posts....I see the formatting in my window and then when I post it they all disappear

If the PM number is unique to the individual,as I believe it to be,then giving the number is giving the name .Also,if it is unique, then this could be construed as conspiracy to defraud or attempting to gain pecuniary advantage by deception(aka theft) .At the end of the day ,they are the ultimate arbiters of their policy -if they want to PM it ,they will, and vice versa.

I am in JL this weekend and will be seeing one of their managers so I will ask the question directly about their policy.

It would be worth asking, I dont think the other forum was suggesting that this was fraudulent or deception and it certainly does NOT match any usual definition of theft lol . In fact sharing numbers is perfectly within the spirit of the JL pricematch idea, If JL knows about a cheaper price but they sell it to me higher then they are the ones practicing deception since otherwise they are knowingly being undersold.

I think sharing the information about where to find the deal is in the spirit rather than adopting someone elses profile because they are all independant price match requests-however I will still ask the question at the weekend. An interesting twist can be found here which if adopted countrywide would mean that I would not have been able to price match here in Bedfordshire with a store in Bolton.

As the MD says it has resulted in an increase in undersells granted ,I would prefer to see the statistical effect in value rather than the quantity. My cynical bet is an increase in average margin in that area, but that is what business is about. The trouble is when the general public has got used to these great price matches with the JL service back up, it could be a rough ride for the company to move the goalposts.

TH37PX80B successfully pricematched against Sound & Vision for today's price of £574. I e-mailed yesterday and was phoned back with reference today. From my call today it sounds like John Lewis regularly receive a price list from S & V and if your item is listed on there, you'll get the price match. Thanks for all the advice from this forum! Well worth it to keep trying with John Lewis for anyone who hasn't been successful yet.

I have had a PM with JL and saved over £200.

I have to wonder though how JL can stick to a slogan of Never Knowingly Undersold when quite frankly they are and are aware of that!

That was my point too. They know very well, since they label and sanction each 'undersale' as they call it. Once all the other people go out of business then we will be at their mercy :)

If a local store has a lower price they will match that in the store and change the price in the shop.

In addition, if you find it in any UK shop cheaper, they will refund the difference. What's wrong with that?

Its a matter of principle. What if you`re someone who doesn`t have access to the Internet or the know how to research prices or understanding of JL`s policies? For that you end up paying an extra £200.

So are you saying that JL in Bolton or wherever the local store is to S & V has a label on the TV for sub £600?

And if its a local pledge why do they contradict that by matching a non local stores price?

Well, just got back from JL MK having had a chat with one of the managers there and he confirmed that each price match is unique and cross referenced to the name of the person who makes the claim. So using somebody elses reference is not a good idea.He said there is no problem in "word of mouth" referencing ie passing on the info of where it was matched and against which price ,but using the same code allocated to someone elses undersell claim would not make it happen.

I'll just sit back and wait till Tuesday when the telly arrives. It had better be worth it after this.
