Hello,

I recently purchased a new Samsung Television ( http://www.whathifi.com/samsung/ue48h6400ak/overview ) that I wish to hook up to my integrated amp (Rotel RA-06 http://www.whathifi.com/rotel/ra-06/review ).

I used to do this via a Cambridge Audio DAC and digital cable; however my DAC is now broken. Is buying a new DAC the best way to go, or is there a cheaper, just as effective solution purely with cables or another device? I didn't use the DAC for anything other than my TV, so in reflection it may have been overkill.

Thanks.

Get a sound bar?

Nonsense.

Three options:

- Connect it via the TV's headphone socket (if it has one). It'll most probably sound quite a bit worse than what you're used to.

- Get a working DAC.

- Replace your amp with one with digital inputs (be it a two-channel or surround model). OR a Yamaha DSP-E800 processor, which adds Dolby Digital capability to your setup whilst you'd still use your Rotel to power the main speakers. It's another full-size unit, though, however in value-for-money terms it's unbeatable as it can be had for £20-50 used.

A used small DAC unit is probably the least costly AND space-consuming way.
