Hi, to whom it has interested.

I have a Technics SL-1210Mk2 turntable which I am satisfied with on the whole. However, the OEM Phono/RCA cables appear to be very basic and unimpressive. I happen to have a spare pair of 'Synergy-Hotwire' phono cables lying about which, ostensibly, would be an ideal replacement.

However, my reason for this post is that I am not familiar with this brand at all and know nothing of their reputation or this cables' specification. I have done a bit of internet searching and come up with nothing. So to anyone out there could you please help me by informing me of your knowledge or experience with this brand/cable?

Cheers

Hi Wayn0, and welcome to the WHFSV forums.

I'm afraid I can't comment on the Synergy cables as I've had no experience with them.

The phono leads on the SL are captive - that is to say that to replace them you would have to disassemble the turntable and solder on the new cables, so unless you are 100% convinced that they will make a large difference to the SL, I'd leave well alone.

A new cartridge would make a much bigger difference - what do you currently have on the SL?

The SL's leads aren't that bad anyway - they are well made, and to my ears do the job fine.

Well said, FBSF! Why people tweak such a beautifully engineered deck is beyond me, when a cartridge upgrade usually does the trick. A cartridge costing the same as the deck isn't necessarily out of place.
