I've had various pairs of TDLs over the years, albeit only the RTL versions rather tha real TLs. I was first introduced to and fell in love with RTL2's by a real hi-fi buff mate of mine, Roy K Riches (Google him on other forums). He always rated the 2s over the 3s by the way.
Now, having just acquired my 4th pair on Ebay, a pair of TDL Cotswolds, I wonder if anyone knows anything about them? They're 2-way in Cherrywood, real wood veneer, so clearly a cut above the RTL 1-4 range, and have metal drivers. They are still only a reflex transmission line model. The tweeter housing is rectangular. I think they may be part of the t-line or metal series, but can't find out much else about them. Apparently they were £599 new. Any info out there?
I've always loved the TDL sound on my relatively budget system. Powering RTL 2s, RTL4's and now the Cotswolds with Arcam Alpha 8R integrated and 8P power amps, bi-amped with Cable Talk Talk 4.1 speaker cable and quality interconnects between the amps, makes them really sing, especially with my custom-upgraded Marantz CD 67SE bought from a chap on Ebay who specialised in upgrading CD players and amps. Having said that, I was also originally delighted with the RTL2s with my original single Alpha 3 integrated amp and an old Marantz CD42.
I've been really happy with all 3 sets of speaker, but aesthetics (and wife) mean I'm now keeping the Cotswolds and shortly selling on EBay 2 pairs of RTL2s (1 rosewood, 1 black ash) and my rare pair of RTL4s in rosewood because, to be honest, I enjoy the sound from all 3 in their subtly different ways and can't choose between them for enjoyable listening experience, and the wife rules OK, so I'm happy with that. And even I acknowledge that the RTL4s do dominate our living room (sizewise). All in good nick I might add, so watch for them on EBay within the next month if you're interested. Just waiting for some new foam from Wilmslow Audio for the front reflex bass ports on one of the pairs.
