HI,

I have a Sony TC-K611S Tape deck, it is in immaculate condition but not working (the drive belt has perished)
Anyway I have found a local chap who says he can repair it.
My question is it worth doing, is there any value to this deck, as I thought that tape as a medium was dead.

Doubt that I would use if it was repaired, I would be looking to repair then sell, if there is a market for this sort of kit these days.

I've got a very similar 3-head Sony deck (amongst several decks from other brands). As cassette decks go, I like it.
Your answer really depends on how much the repair charge will be - but yes, you would find a buyer for a well- working 3-head Sony.

I've currently got a nice Aiwa deck in pieces. It's drive belt has also perished.
But it's left a hideously sticky mess on the motor pulley, flywheel and elsewhere.
I could do it, but I'm deciding whether it's worth the effort.

Point is, If your repairer got my Aiwa in - he wouldn't be able to charge enough.
Hopefully a clean belt swap is all you need.

See if he can give a free estimate - essential before you decide.

OK,
I have also seen them going for good money, but are they selling ?
The guy is currently fixing my Marantz CD player, fitting new laser etc, he said the part was $
£54 and he is charging £40 labour, so £94 in total, cheaper than getting a similar replacement.
When I pick that up I am going to give him the tape deck and he will give me a quote to fix.
Based in what he is charging to fix the CD I don't think it will be expensive, as the parts will be very cheap. But I suspect it will be more labour to do.

BTW the chap is based near Longield in Kent,

Del 🙂

There are a couple of outliers in he £200+ bracket sold on eBay, though they were described as serviced rather than repaired. That might be semantics. But given that most went for £120-130, I'm not sure I could be bothered to spend £94 on the chance of making £30 or so.

Ones listed for parts only seemed to average £50+, so I'd go down that route myself. That's the equivalent of having the work done and then selling for £150 or so, without having to go to the trouble of repairing and then hoping you find a buyer.

£94 is for the repair of my CD player, I am expecting the repair to tape deck to be less than that..
Else I will then sell for parts only etc.
