Hi all,

I am in the process of relocating out to Germany and have a clean sheet in terms of putting together a good home cinema/hifi system.

My living room is approx 8m x 4m so a good size but want to ensure that I can get a good sound and atmosphere without having to crank it up so loud that the neighbours try to beat the door down so am looking for some good recommendations for a budget of around 2000 pounds.

I am looking for a AV receiver, DVD or Blu Ray player (my movie library is in DVD not Blu-Ray) and speakers

Really keen to see what the general consencus of opinion is as I am going round in circles with all the possibilities so hoping a little experience guidence can point me in the right direction.

Many thanks

Phil

Depends what you are doing really.

You can get a Pioneer VSX-LX52 for 589.00 delivered.

Monitor audio BX series comes out at the end of the month and that should be less that 1400.00

Or you can push for the RX range and maybe ask dealers for a discount if bought cash all at once.

If you aren't too worried about 3D TV, you can get some good deals on HDMI 1.3 amps, released for the 2009-2010 sales period. Probably one of the best deals being the yamaha 2065, which can be had for £630, even though it originally sold for £900-950.

I would allow up to £170 for a blueray player leaving you £1200 for speakers (or a little less if you include cables, though don't pay more than £2/mt for speaker wire or more than £10 for a 1mt HDMI cable).

For speakers to go with the amp, I'd look at the Monitor audio (bronze or Radius HD), B&W (not fully farmiliar with their range) and Mordaunt short (Avianos or Mezzos). all these will be good pairings for the yamaha amp.

Denon amps would also work well with the speakers. the 3310, equivalent to the Yamaha 2065 is about £850.

The 2010-2011 range of amps have HDMI 1.4 and will work with any 3D blueray player, however, if you get a 3D BR player with two HDMI outs, such as those made by Panasonic, they will work for 3D with a HDMI 1.3 amp.

Dunno about the amp but you can get arguably some of the best AV speakers in Germany. Just wander down to your local HiFi/AV retailer and utter the word Canton.

Hi Guys,

OK looks like I think I have found my solution:-

Yamaha RX-V767 AV Receiver

Yamaha BD S1900 Blu Ray player

Monitor Audio BR5 AV Speakers

Am arranging a demo for when I am back but if anyone has any comments please feel free to throw them in the mix?

Regards

Phil

What about some B&W 685 speakers? Pretty sexy package imo, but then you're going to need to get a cheaper blue ray player to be able to afford to buy an amp to run them.

If you take advantage of summer sales and offers, there are deals to be had right now. Example system combinations to audition (as I did recently before buying):

Denon AVR-2310

If Music is important and space not an issue, consider B&W 685 Theatre. I changed the rears to B&W M-1 due to lack of space for big surround speakers and I upgraded the Sub to B&W ASW610.

If you want smaller speakers and a killer sub (and music isn't a major priority), check out B&W MT-30

Depending on which of the above speaker packages were to be chosen, Sony S370 or S570 BD player could be had and brings the whole thing in for £2K if you haggle.

That doesn't allow for cables, stands, etc though. If you want to get everything for under £2K, you might want to consider a Denon AVR-1910 (if you can find one) along with B&W MT-25 and Sony S370. That would leave plenty spare for stands, cables and any accessories.
