Hi, just set up new Synology DS115 on home network, which turned out to be a relatively pain free experience. Previously using laptop with JRiver straight into USB on Pioneer N-50, files a mix of FLAC and 320MP3. Both the Pioneer and my Marantz UD7007 are seeing the NAS and are streaming music , but so far I'm not very impressed with the sound quality I'm hearing, its all rather dull, certainly short of what I am used-to via the laptop/Pioneer or CD's played on the Marantz. Currently have the basic DSM audioplayer running on the NAS, does anyone know how I can improve the sound I'm getting from the networked files? Any help would be appreciated.

Check to see if you have set the Synology to convert the files on the fly? You probably want to keep the FLAC as they are.

NAS does not affect sound quality as it stores digitally 0s and 1s. The analogue circuits affect sound quality between NAS and speakers

You don't need to use the player in the Synology, as the Pioneer & Marantz will do it on-board, so just bypass the player and let the files stream direct to your Pioneer & Marantz players.

Hope this helps

Bill
