Hey there,

Thanks all for your help thus far.

I've been researching NAS drives and the advice I've received on here has been top notch.

I originally decided on the Synology DS416Play which isn't yet out.

Having called potential stockists I've been informed that the Synology DS916+ may be a better option.

As I'm new to all this, I've literally no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to such things.

What does the 'Play' part mean and will the 916+ model in fact be more powerful? (I'm told it has a better processor or something).

I should note that I'll primarily be using the Synology to link up with a Sonos system to play music directly from the drive without the need for a laptop.

Thanks!

R. :)

Firstly - yes it is.

Secondly - I don't understand the functionality difference between the two models.

Thirdly - Be nice.

Firstly, the NAS will not make any difference to the sound, I have tested this.

DS916+ vs DS415 - I know it is different to the one you were looking at, but it will give you an idea.

Run through of DS416 Play - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4yIYeX27ec&spfreload=10

I have a DS716+ and also two servers HP and a Fujitsu both running Windows Home Server 2011, there is no difference in sound when streaming from any of these.
