Help. I have upgraded from Onkyo 604E to Onkyo 807 and from Sony Blue Ray to Onkyo 507 Blue Ray. The problem now is that when I switch to DVD on AV the "searching for signal" is displayed (HDMI). When I leave the DVD running and put the 807 on standby and then on again it finds the HDMI signal (most of the times)....very frustating. The 604E worked fined. Both systems on Samsung Plasma PS50A650.

Thanks. I am still battling to get this done...connected LAN cable to my router but the Onkyo keeps on giving connection errors... it seems a nightmare to update firmware...maybe I am missing something?!

This just in from Richard at GenServe, which handles Onkyo servicing:

"We'd suggest to the customer that he ensures that Anynet + (Samsung's HDMI / CEC control protocol) is switched off via the tools menu on his TV. These manufacturer-specific protocols can cause problems.

"If it's already off, we'd suggest enabling it and then telling it to go through the HDMI source component search routine and seeing if that makes any difference.

"He doesn't mention anything else connected to the amp; we'd ask what the other HDMI-connected components are and see if there's something like a Sky HD box or media PC which are regular sources of HDMI signal drop-out (HDCP handshake problems).

"We'd then probably suggest he disconnects all the input source components connected via HDMI and then re-connect one at a time to see if the culprit becomes evident.

"He also doesn't mention cable lengths; his plasma is probably wall-mounted so the HDMI cable may be quite long; it is possible that the HDMI output signal strength is not as high as from the older amp. We'd suggest using a short HDMI cable either to the same TV or if not possible then to another HDMI TV to see if the problem persists.

"We'd also suggest if possible connecting another HDMI TV to the same cable he's using for the plasma; these 2 tests help to show whether there may be a problem with the cable or compatibility with the plasma.

"After all that, we'd suggest he does the firmware update on-line, giving us a call if there's a problem."

Thank you..I REALLY appreciate the effort in advise.

Lets go through my efforts:

1) I did turn off the Anynet + (Samsung's HDMI / CEC control protocol) (what is this by the way?) on my plasma menu. This only worsen the situation and not even turning the AV off and on again could eliminate the "searcing for signal" message. Turning the Anynet on again was beter but takes long time to find and even when the blue ray changes menus, the signal gets lost and I have to turn off/on to find again.

2) After a battle I did update the firmware via net...no positive effect.

3) Regarding HDMI, I only have the DVD (Onkyo) via HDMI to Onkyo 807. From there a HDMI to plasma. The satelite PVR (DSTV) via analogue (no HD) to receiver with "monitor out" to plasma (this works fine). No other HDMI connections

4) My plasma is standing(non wall mounted) and both HDMI cables are 2 meters...high quality cable.

5) I routed the HDMI signal to my computer monitor with HDMI connection (Samsung2494HS 23")...here it works fine...just like the previous Onkyo 604E worked with current Plasma (50").

6) I have also tried to switch back to my Sony blue ray DVD...same issue.

7) The only thing I must still try from your suggestions is shorter (<2m) HDMI cable but not sure if this will help due to point 3 above.

Therefore, I am still struggling. Any further advice will be appreciated.

Kind regards
