Ported subs can, and generally do, produce deeper bass. Because of this, their bass response can be a little uneven (like a ported loudspeaker), and it'll be less room friendly as far as room placement goes. Depending how good the overall design is, ported subs can produce a 'chuffing' noise, which is caused by the sub's port.
A sealed sub may not reach down as deep, but it'll have a far more even bass response, and hence, easier to position in any room. Also, I tend to find sealed subs have a tighter and faster bass, something I'd prefer for films as well as music.
Having said that, it'll also be down to how well each type is designed - a good design will work well, a bad one won't.
