Hello, am completely new to all this. My very basic pc speakers have just died and so am considering getting some 5.1, which i would also like my upscaling dvd player to run through, if this is possible?

I would like to know if I would need any extra equipment, and also if anyone has any good ideas of budget systems for upto about £70.

Also, i intend on purchasing a PS3 at some point this year so what would be needed to run this through a 5.1?

Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers

Could do with knowing what you already have - is it just the DVD player? If so, you'll need an amp / receiver. Are you looking to get everything you need for the 5.1 sound on the £70 budget or just the speakers?

yes it is, i looked at the back and it has a digital output and a left and right audio. is this any good? please can you also explain the function of an amp/receiver as i have no experience with audio systems at all! thanks

ps the £70 budget could be flexible depending exactly what was needed, had thought of that just for the speakers.
