Considering the history of this legendary name, I am dissapointed not to find more reviews of their components.

I listened yesterday the Masterclass amp on Sonus Faber Liutos and Naim DAC, and I was blown away by their performance in sound!

I would like to read more opinions about Sugden electronics. Somebody can help?

Thanks a lot

The only opinion that matters is your own.

However, I have heard several Sugden set-ups and I have fallen in love with their kit. I'm not surprised you were blown away.

One day, when funds allow, I plan to have Sugden myself.

Unfortunately unless a reviewer has the option of reviewing Sugden or any other manufactures equipment there won't be reviews for them.

Personally i think it's a good idea as the customer can decide what he or she likes and are not influenced from third parties. Sorry WHF!

Franckly I am quite surprised that products from a company with 50 years of history is not reviewed in What Hifi...Not even once!

The Sugden dealer was my last stop before deciding my next buy.

Now I have a great dilema: Unison Research (100+CDE)+Opera Seconda, or Sugden (Masterclass or SE)+Sonus Faber Liuto...

I doubt a company like Sugden needs magazine reviews. As you said, they have 50 years of history behind them mostly centred on one product (the A21 class A amp in all it's variants) although others have come and gone.

Most likely that they don't want (or need) to submit equipment to be reviewed by WHFS&V.

We have reviewed Sugden products in the past, and IIRC we gave one an Award not so long ago, but I'm not sure those we covered are current, or if they are representative of current production

Hi Edwin,

well I've had the same problem. When you check forums, you also get the argument about the lack of power output. I compared the sugden a21A to the primare i30. Based on reviews and power rating ,one should say the primare would be the winner. But I truly found the sugden more liking to my ears. It's crystal clear but not clynical sounding. It sounds very realistic with very good imaging. My cyrus CDP in combination with B&W speakers keeps bass tight and precise which results in a very realistic almost 3d soundstage.

So trust your ears not the reviews or other people opinions.

Hi GVoX,

I was concerned by the low power of that Masterclass amp before listening to it, but on the SF Liuto the power was more than enough! And the sound was, well, extremely musical, but, in my opinion, not as musical as the Unison Research.

The sole problem is that I cannot listen to both sistems in the same day and room, because the dealers are not the same...

Have listened to sugden systems from cheapest to very expensive, i am biased but would have to say that i have never been dissapointed at all, does what you want from it, end of.

As Andew mentioned, we have reviewed some Sugden products in years past, but when we set up the website they were no longer current so they're not on the database any more.

Thanx Andy!

Just one question, if you are so kind to answer: would there be any problem partnering the mighty Masterclass with a more reasonable (cost wise) CD 21 SE? I mean, from the musical point of view? (I cannot afford the Masterclass CD player).

Thanx a lot

I can't see any problem myself however I would buy Sugden Masterclass CD player and A21 SE Amp.

Hi PP,

imo, I had 4 different sudgen and mix & match different brands with them, I thought they all were very good for the price. The 1st generation masterclass CD player was very musical, very organic in the way music flow.

PP.
If your looking for an organic machine the Musical Fidelity Nu Vista 3D CD is very good indeed IMO. Unfortunately there not for sale as they were limited to 500 pieces but come up quite regular second hand for about 1k.
If your in the oxford area your welcome an demo.

They always say "first impressions count", so it happens as far as MF amps. I listened to the A300 a few years ago. This amp is built like a brick outhouse, and huge intgrated. Let's just say, the sound was easily forgettable.

Before any MF fans lynch me, I'm sure their newer amps are better but it won't be top of my list.
