hi - do you have to do anything when placing your subwoofer to stop the vibrations from annoying neighbours?

ie, do spikes go straight to concrete floor or do people place sub on say paving stone or anything? - might be a daft question but i have come across so many things i have not heard about since coming on this site i thought i best ask (who would think putting a weight on top of a cd player makes it better not worse!!)

thanks

I have my PV1 on a granite plinth on top of my carpet (only until I decorate, then it's bye-bye carpet, hello marble tiles, then the sub will just sit on the floor).

I have my sub in the corner of my room that's on the detached wall of my semi, as far from the neighbours as I can get it.

What sub do you have? I think the idea of spikes is to penetrate(!) the carpet to get onto the solid floor beneath. If you don't want holes on your carpet (understandable really), then some form of solid plinth is probably the best bet.

Oh yeah. Ensure your sub is set up correctly too. It shouldn't be booming out sub bass in quiet passages of dialogue, if it is, it's set too 'hot'.

thanks, i have (will have when it arrives) the Kef 2005 (not sure what the actually sub number is). i might be better off doing what you have done at the moment and place slab on carpet. the sub is going to be very near the neigbours wall !!

thanks

Agreed.

I dunno about the Kef sub, but doubt it has spikes.

Are you and your neighbours on friendly terms? If so, have a word with them. I've chatted with all my neighbours over the years, basically saying that I may have a tendency to turn the dial up at times, but if it becomes a problem just knock and let me know. I've never had a neighbour knock yet, and I still maintain a friendly relationship with them.

I think people are more accepting if they've been informed and know that they can mention it without it descending into WW3. (Maybe they realise that with a 7 piece drum-kit in my 'arsenal', I'd easily win any 'I-can-be-louder-than-you-can' battles) 🙂
