For the past few weeks the wireless connection from my Sky Broadband doesn't connect on my Mac. When I try to re-enter both passwords it keeps saying connection timed out after a mere few seconds. If i connect it via the cable it works everytime. I am using Firefox, but seem to get the same problem with Safari.

Is it me being stupid?

Also, I assume my broadband is password protected and no one else can connect via AirGrab etc...

Any help would be appreciated before I have a ritual burning of my wifi box.

You can get Sky's passwords with the help of google

Its quite possible someones hacked into the wireless part and changed the settings

Can you log into the router?

Rather than wasting hours trying to fix the problem just hit the reset button on your router and spend 5-10 minutes reconfiguring

Thanks for the info. Will look for the reset button tonight. I have necer noticed one before, so I assume it is hidden at the base of the router.

You are looking for a small hole, normally on the back. Best way to reset is to use an open paperclip. The problem you are having could be a wifi connection problem but could also be that you have the DSL connection but that there is a problem with the router or at the exchange and the internet is not connected.

A restet will normally sort this out as it returns the router to its default settings.

You probably want to make sure you have the DSL settings saved somewhere as well though, surely? I don't know if Sky does it any differently but both the routers I look after lose the DSL settings if you reset them.

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but a girl from Sky Customer Service I spoke to a while back, said that in order to do a full reset, you need to hold the reset button in for about 15 seconds. Anything much less than that isn't a full reset ? :/

Thats (generally) correct

Every router ive known would require it to be powered on and the reset button pressed for approx 30 seconds for a full 'back to default settings' reset
