To be concise, the ones with Dolby TrueHD soundtracks will also contain the Dolby Digital soundtrack and the ones with the DTS HD Master Audio soundtrack will contain the standard DTS soundtrack. Some will contain both, but the above is always true.

DTS HD Master audio always will contain DTS Soundtracks as well? Are you 100% positive?

It's going to depend on the way the Blu-Ray is produced, the master used etc. Don't assume that because something has a Dolby TrueHD or a DTS HD Master Audio track, it's going to be amazing. However, the HD formats have the potential to be much better than a standard DTS soundtrack due to their capacity for more information (24.5 Mbps for DTS HD MA and 18 Mbps for Dolby TrueHD compared to 1.5 Mbps for standard DTS).

As a partial answer: on Clone Wars the imporvement of DD TrueHD over Dolby Digital was easy to hear.

DTS-HD encoded content contains a DTS surround sound "core", plus an "extension" that delivers even higher quality. When you play a DTS-HD encoded disc through an older DTS-capable receiver, the DTS-HD extension is simply ignored and only the DTS core is decoded - but not at ordinary quality levels. Your older receiver will play back DTS-HD material with DTS surround audio at twice the data rate of other DVD video surround formats. Meaning? You get immediate compatibility and a boost in quality.

Yes, they are not always a major amazing improvement.

i still dont have a b ray player and dont have a av amp that has hdmi that can decode the new lossless formats...this puts me off.buying a b ray player that has analogues out...or get an av amp that can decode trhough hdmi.yamahas av amps have 7.1 analogue ins.denon have them too...pioneer only have 5.1ins (I think only the top models have 7.1 ins) and entry level amps than cannot decode these formats have 5.1 ins...

If you have an old amp that can decode the standard DTS and DD tracks you can run an optical or coax cable from the BD player independant of the HDMI cable and enjoy surround sound this way.

Now Professorhat I "think" for the first time you might be wrong with this, just be playing my Top Gun blu ray and on the sound settings I only have the choice of DTS HD Master Audio "NO DTS".

So what do you think?

(Sigh)... read my response a few posts back including detailed information from the DTS website. Basically, if your system isn't capable of decoding the DTS HD Master Audio track, you will get the standard DTS soundtrack as it's included within the HD track.

You might not have the "choice" of using the standard DTS soundtrack when you have an amp capable of decoding DTS HD Master Audio, but then why would you want to?
