Struggling to find suitable speakers

I have a Hi-Fi that connects to speakers usuing usual speaker cable like this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/loudspeaker-cable-47

The hi-fi has changed positions in the house and is now in a position where the standard speakers are too big to sit next to the TV. I am therefore trying to find some small/micro speakers that take standard speaker cable. The alternative is to find a cheap soundbar that will take them. The problem is that most small speakers or soundbars only seem to take 3.5mm jacks, USBs, or RCA cables.

Can anyone help me out and recommend some micro speakers or a sound bar that will work? Ideally I'm after some for under £65. it's just so I can play the odd CD without having to use the DVD player and TV.

I think you are confussing speakers soundbars and active speakers.

Not sure you will get much for £65 but I would have alook at something like the Q Acoustics 2010i should be able to get them for under £100.

I have a feeling I know whats throwing the OP here AL.

I suspect his current speakers have those horrid little spring clip with a tiny hole in em doodahs. Therefore is unaware of what you are on about.

Could be miles out mind .

Monitor Audio R90HD speakers are very petite (200mm high, 120mm wide, 130mm deep) but could do the job in this situation. They come with a wall-bracket for mounting and are happy with a bare wire connection.. They used to RRP at £325, but I understand that they're being updated soon so are going much cheaper from the likes of Sevenoaks & EBay.

if you check EBay, you might be fortunate enough to see some ex-display models around the £100 mark. Alternatively look for their predecessors the Radius R90 (missing the 'HD' monicker) which I've seen at a 'buy now' price on EBay for around £65. There appear to be plenty of them on the market just now, so are quite a bargain for such a well-made speaker.

I'd steer clear of the R90's junior brother, the R45. They really are designed purely for a surround set-up only in conjunction with a subwoofer, whereas the 90's are pretty decent mini monitors. However, should you come over all flush down the line, and depending on the capabilities of your amp, you could always search out the R360/R360HD subwoofer to have a well-rounded system.

Have you looked on Richer Sounds website plenty of small speakers on there under £100, try the Wharfedales? Most speakers will take those speaker cables although the posts may look different from your image.

Here ya go buddy. Most terminals are pretty much made up like this. Poke your cable into the hole that you can see and tighten up.

That'll be near enough for ya.

Alternatively wrap the bare wires around the inner diameter and tighten. Pop into your local hifi shop and have a butchers. It will all become a parrot.

What kind of connectors are they? I don't suppose I can get an adaptor to link the hifi speaker cable to 3.5mm jack?

:doh: . These will be nailed onto the back of the loudspeaker and will take your wires. Or is your original post in Kiswahili and my brain converted it to English via babelfish ,lol.

Best bet is to pop down to a RicherSounds if you have one near you and see what they have, try a few out.
