Streaming using a usb drive through a router

Hi,

I am wanting to stream audio files (mainly FLAC) to a Pioneer N50. I was going to get a NAS, but then heard that most modern routers have a usb connection which allows one to connect a hard drive. Does anyone know how satisfactory this is? I notice that the Netgear Nighthawk has this facility.

Depends on the router. Sometimes they are fine, sometimes they are a bit flaky.
