Spotify without using a PC

Ah but yeah but no but. You can play it on your iPhone (provided you have premium, as above), but it doesn't play out of the dock connector - only the headphone socket (or hasn't when I've tried it).

Ah but, great. and the iPhone was only a guide. any phone maybe used. but i think a mini pc will be the solution, something like a zotac mag. but as it is not for me we (I) will see.

On the Spotify help page it says,

" Spotify has done its best to make sure Spotify Mobile works according to
the standards that are available on the market. However, some headsets,
docking stations and other accessories might not work correctly with
Spotify. Some of these are designed to only work with the device's built
in player. For some docking stations updating the firmware can help
when playing music from Spotify while docked."

So sounds like its pot luck whether it works with a dock or not!

OK, at least that's a bit more encouraging. Wasn't my dock so it may be product specific. iTunes *did* work through that particular dock so it suggests not.

Am hoping the (multitasking) Nexus One might play more nicely in this regard...

I've read that Spotify only streams at 160kbps to a mobile. Does anyone know if this is correct? I know that 320kbps can push a 3G connection but is perfectly okay with a decent WiFi set up. I think my Iphone sound quality with a decent pair of ear plugs (I'm using Sennheiser IE8s at the moment) fully justifies a 320kbps stream. And of course, if you're going to connect a mobile to a HiFi this makes a 320kbps stream even more desirable.
