Ok, what is the cheapest / most simple way to get spotify through my hifi? does anyone have any idea if I would just be able to play it through my iphone attached to a dock when (or if) the app comes out? This is what I currently do with last fm and I was quite surprised by the sound quality!
I understand that I could use an airport express to get it to my hifi but the computer has to be on to get internet radio and spotify. I have heard rumblings that spotify are trying to get compatability with squeezbox classic/duo, do peoople think this likely or could I be waiting for ever? I ask because this would overcome the issues I have with the airport express route.
Apologies if anything have said does not makew sense but I know very little about streaming music.

Yup, when the app is released, you should be able to stream it direct from your iPhone. I believe you have to be a Premium subscriber for this though (£9.99 a month) - this is what I remember reading on the BBC article at any rate!

Thanks for that professorhat. I think the subscription is well worth it if I can get it through my hifi. Would the sound would be much better if it was played through my CDP DAC via airport?
do you think it is likely spotify would become compatible with the squeezebox devices?

Very possibly, though with no experience with the 740C, it's impossible for me to say definitely and certainly couldn't say by how much.

Have a look at the Squeezebox forums and type Spotify into the Search facility - I can see a number of threads which reference how to stream it through the Squeezebox. I have only glanced at a few, but my feeling is it's likely you would still need a computer switched on to do this as this is the only device capable of receiving and then transmitting Spotify on to the Squeezebox. Whether someone comes up with another way of doing this in the future is another matter.

I'm guessing the whole debacle with the rejection of the Google Voice application has made Apple wary of rejecting apps for competition reasons. The DoJ and the EU are probably not far away from looking into antitrust practises...
