here's the full list below, but it seems that fairly recently purchased devices are no longer being supported by Spotify Connect:

https://support.spotify.com/nl/article/why-cant-i-use-the-spotify-app-on-my-speaker/

I don't especially care whether this is Spotify's fault or the lack of advocacy on the part of the manufacturers to request continued support by Spotify, but either way, IT'S A JOLLY BAD SHOW. Consumers are being treated with contempt.

Hate to sound like a stuck record, but once again this goes to show why I can't treat streaming-services seriously. There's absolutely no contract between you and the provider guaranteeing what they will provide in terms of artists, songs, or in this case software functionality, and anything and everything can be withdrawn at will.

I haven't been able to find an equivalent warning on the English spotify pages though, yet I can't see why Connect would only be withdrawn in the Netherlands.

Anything that's software based will become obsolete one day. Why should it surprise anyone?

According to Spotify: “We updated our backend platform, so that means Spotify Connect is no longer integrated into some older generation speakers and TVs. In some cases, manufacturers can update their firmware to be compatible with the new platform."

Ah fair play. Usual case then of the front-end software becoming incompatible with older hardware, and manufactrers of some hardware either can't or won't update their firmware. Unfortunately, same outcome though.

One day, yes. But just 2 years after you've purchased a product? That's not on.

The onus is on the manufacturer to updated the firmware to support Spotify.

Only just noticed this and think it's a disgrace. I was just looking into buying a mid priced streamer too but I this has totally knocked my confidence, especially as some of that unsupported kit was quite expensive.

Instead I'm going to go for a cheap streamer (maybe SONOS connect) but pair it with a decent DAC. At least that way if the streamer is no longer supported you only lose part of your investment.

I think the moral here is never to spend alot of money on a streamer espectially from the following manufacturers who have not honoured their customers by keeping the devices updated.

Bang & Olufsen

Denon

Dynaudio

Logitech

Marantz

NAD

Nocs

Onkyo

Philips

Pioneer

Teufel

Yamaha

In addition, spotify should have also made efforts for backwards compatibility too so I don't see them as off the hook.
