Hello, EQUIPMENT:: SONY BLU-RAY 550, DENON 1SE AMPLIFIER, SIM DOMINO PROJOECTOR (NONE HDMI); I have recently taken the plunge and bought into blu-ray. I have noticed a leap in the picture quality, but I have to use the Sony's decoder to feed my amp's 7.1 input.

I am considering purchasing the new Pioneer SC LX81 amp. I am wondering would I notice a sound improvement over the Denon and could I split the HDMI signal into sound and then run pictures through the component video for my projector? or would I have to stick to digital coaxel for sound and component video?

Unfortunately if you connect HDMI to an AV receiver, you can only output HDMI as you can't 'downconvert' to component due to HDCP. The only way around this would be to decypher the HDCP and use something like HDFury.

This might work but check the specs of the hdfury and your projector

As to sound improvements, you're best bet is to demo, your amp is still a very capable machine and I wouldn't make a decision without a demo, preferably at home.
