Hi all I purchased a SPL meter today from Maplins, £19.99 mini digital one. Weighted "C" but response time is fast!! Will I still get a good setup using the fast mode as it does not have slow! Any other places I can buy from with the slow feature?? Don't want to spend much really. Thanks

I brought that one from Maplins around 2 years ago and it is rubbish, I tried to set my subwoofer with it, but it was easier to guess the measurements then try using that, I found a analogue one on the web and it did not cost me much and I have been using that for years now and it is really good, if I find it I will post it on here.

Could not find the online store where I brought mine from, but I have found the one I have on ebay and it's only £14.99 with P&P, so take that one back to Maplins get a refund and get this one HERE, I ordered some solder iron tips from them and they delivered next day.

Either of these would be fine, I use the digital one and works well for me.

Hi ppl, I downloaded the iPhone app. £1.19. I turned on amp set to multichannel input, turned volume to Zero. Turned app on and set progress to 0.1, I laced iPhone on back of sofa were my head rests. On amp remote I pressed test tone as sound emitted, the needle moved over the 75db mark I reduced spk level down until it was stable on 75db. I allowed the progress bar to run 3times per spk and got the average on the 3rimes all within .5db. I then switched between all 5spks and ran test again. Stable on 75db thru all speakers. Sub seemed far too loud for my taste (the wifes tbh lol) but overall I'm really impressed at such a cheap alternative. Only question is when I switch to DVD using coaxal I can't save the settings for both ie multichannel and coax.

I am a little confused.

Now that the receiver is calibrated it will store these settings whichever source you use in a multichannel set-up. Coaxial is just a connection method. Perhaps you could clarify??

Sorry messiah,
What I mean is that my LGBD390 is connected by multi ch for BD & for DVD it has a coax connection as well. So when i watch BD the LG does the HD decoding and when I play DVD in the LG I let my Yamaha RXV2400 do the processing. Now I set the Yamaha up manually for DVD ie; spk levels, Bass to sub only, spk distance etc... and it sounds great, even when I use the YPAO it's pretty good. But when I press Multi ch and go into the spk levels they all have the DVD settings and not kept the multi ch. I have HDMI going to tv and I have the coax going into amp on the DVD input. And obviously multi ch from BD to amp.

Is that any clearer??
