Spendor S5Es....

I've briefly heard the A5s with a Naim/Cyrus combo and sounded rather good. How does the S5Es compare with A5s? I seem to remember igglebert saying the A5 speakers sounded darker than the A6 (unsure what "darker" means in real terms).

I'm in need of enlightenment....[😛]

FWIW darker means less bright

or less lit up in the treble by comparison.

Haven't heard the previous model of the 5 but I understand that they're more laid back. Whatever that equates to.

from what i've read you post about your leema, they could be a very good match. agree with igg about them being a little 'dark' sounding. maybe dynaudio would match well, too.

Thought about Dyns when I had the Arcam. They need an awful lot of breathing room - something we can't accommodate, sadly. Great speakers though.

Decided to knock the S5s on the head. The reason is simple: given they first came out in 2004, and I can't demo a pair, I'm guessing that the S5Es aren't going to be significantly better than my RS6s (oh dear, I could end up with egg on me chops...) and because I can't audition a pair, I think I'll blow them out...

Boring, but prudent given the circumstances.
