I may need to replace my speakers. I can't try out beforehand (but have never really been unhappy with anything that was recommended here).

I am looking at the Kef Q100, the Q acoustics q3020, the wharfedale d 220 to use on mission stands in a 5m x 5m room, that has a fireplace sticking out so 2 alcoves. I am using a marantz pm6005 amp to drive these, I listen to very varied music, I suppose rock is my most listened to.

I also may consider a set of missin Mx3, as I think they are a floorstander that can be used in a room this size.

Has anyone anything advice. Thank you

What's your budget and would you consider buying used?

I would go for the best mission floorstanders you can afford, they will fill that space and sound much more powerful than standmounts.

I had a pair of m35i missions which kept me very happy for 8 years.

Try to get a demo of some mission speakers before you make your choice. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Ok, I've asked about second hand as I've only listened to Q Acoustics 3020 and Wharfedale 220's from your list. That was with Onkyo A9010 and I didn't enjoy either pairing. I have heard the 2020 and 2010 and the sound signature was similar. I know you like your 2020. The easiest demo would be to hook up your Marantz and see if they sound ok. I wouldn't expect massive differences between 2020 and 3020.

One thing to conisder is that 3020 are currently at £149 in the UK yet if you look at Richer Sounds Ireland it will show 199EUR unless you choose £ as currency then it shows £149. Worth paying in pounds as that would save about 20EUR.

If you were to up your budget by 50EUR than I could say the Monitor Audio Bronze 2 are definitely worth the extra outlay. Again if you were to pay in pounds at RS.ie £249 which should be less than 299EUR. I know these are over your budget. Might be worth speaking to RS if they would be willing to discount them a little for the inconvenience you've endured with your last purchase ;)

EDIT: I wouldn't class MA's as rock speakers though.

The first thing I did when I came home was take the q acoustics off the wall and set them up with my Marantz (bit of a job as I DIYed a bracket I had to take them). It may sound like a "you think everything you have is great", but these speakers sound so much better on a stand at listening level than they do hung up on a bracket 2 metres up. I had always liked them, now there is no way I'll buy anything else. It will either be the 3020, or maybe even a second set of 2020i. Thanks for your input, it is appreciated.

FWIW- the MA would have been my number one choice (apart from budget), but after listening to the QA, I realise I don't need to go bigger or more expensive and I have spent a bit lately so need to watch that also

I'd stick with the QA series as you know you like them. Alternatively, the Tannoy Eclipse Three strikes me as a real bargain at Richer Sounds where it is reduced from £299 to £199.

Whatever you get, make sure you hear them first or can return them.

I'll stick with QA. I havent enough room for the tannoy, if I go by reviews,as they need about a half a meter behind them or they will boom. I really probably am better off with stand mounters in my place at the moment. Maybe when the kids are grown up :)

Spot on! You should be able to get second hand 2020's for well under £100 including postage (seen them go for as little as £65) It's so easy to always look for something better and never be happy with what you have. I admire you sticking to what you have and like.

EDIT If you want to go second hand. If not 3020 new will cost almost the same.

I'm hoping the returned CAs will go a long way to getting me these. To be fair the I have been onto the shop and they have not received the returned units yet (checked tracking and for some reason they are unusually slow getting to destination). They are very good on the phone. I still need to see what they say but I am quietly confident/hopeful I'll get a credit note
