Hi, I’ve recently bought a new Rotel A11 Tribute amp and wanted some decent speakers to get the most out of it (bookshelf speakers for bedroom). I got some old Jamo E640s cheap but I wondered if it would be worth spending a fair bit more on something “better” or new, have seen some recommendations online of Bowers & Wilkins 606 for example, or Monitor Bronze/Silver or Wharfedale Diamonds etc. Can anyone advise on the difference in quality as it would only be worth it for a proper step up. I know it’s very personal and all but just wondered if anyone could help?

You don't buy speakers to suit an amplifier necessarily, you buy them to work well in a specific room.
No details as to size, layout etc. make it hard to recommend anything.
Maximum budget might also help along with whether or not you own suitable stands.
No stands, they have to sit either side of the amp on a wooden cabinet in a medium-sized bedroom, and they have to be quite close to the wall, no other options really as regards placement. Max budget is probably about £400.

Close to wall & on a cabinet is awful for Any Speaker

Can you wall mount the speakers or Isolating stands on your cabinet
Yes I realise it’s not ideal, no other options as I said. I have to work within the limitations of the room and its furniture.

Hi Bowers&Wilkins 606 are not bad but often bright on hights, mainly when combined with amp with lively character like your Rotel. Rotel 11 Tribute is very good amp but take care with combination with speakers. Speakers like QAcoustics 3020c or 3030c(they are bigger, more bass, more drive, dynamic than 3020c) will better match sound signature of your Rotel amp. The best for sure is to try considered combination of speakers by you personaly. BR

If your speakers have to be close to a wall try out some Dalis

The Fyne F5e will be a technically better speaker than the 301, and will likely work better nearer a wall too.

Do look at isolation, as any speaker sitting on a cabinet is just going to make the cabinet sing along with them. Auralex MoPads work well.
