Speakers for outdoors

Hi everyone!

I'm looking to get some speakers that will work for an outside space. They will be covered so don't need to be wall mounted, water proofed specialist outdoor speakers really (they'll be sitting on top of an indoor surface but with the cones out to a large patio) and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

Would like to spend about £300m and would rather not spend more than £400/£500 if possible, but any suggestions would be gratefully received!

Thanks!

Hello and welcome,

For a budget of £300m your choices would appear limitless. You could even pick up a couple of Paul Pogba's for the local Sunday League team and still have change for a savage system!

More seriously, assuming the elements are really not an issue, it depends on how loud you want to listen, at what kind of distance you will be from the speaker, levels of ambient noise (people, traffic etc), what amp/source you are using etc.

Sorry, I don't really have any recommendations but my hunch is that Pro gear might be more up to the task anyway.

Sorry, I meant £300! They're just for my garden!

Wouldn't need to be super loud

Distance is anywhere from a few metres to about 30 metres

Rotel amp - reasonable but nothing too flash

Ambient noise mainly around people talking

I reckon most half-decent speakers will do the job pretty well. You're not going to get the ultimate in resolution outside in the garden so there's no point sweating over it.

A few suggestions: Q Acoustics 3010, Wharfedale Diamond 220, Dali Zensor 3, Kef Q100, Klipsch RP-M50, Focal Chorus 705, Elac B6.

I'm not based in the UK so don't know how easy some of those are to find or the exact prices. The Focals have some great deals at the moment and are reasonably easy to power. Those or the Elac would be my choice.

Elac are supposed to have a new model, designed by speaker guru/ninja Andrew Jones, called the Unifi. Not sure if it has been released yet as there was apparently a manufacturing balls-up with the colour. That could be an interesting option too. It's supposed to be a beast for the money.
