Speakers for Cyrus/Rotel

Hi,

Any recommendations for a pair of floorstanding speakers (upto £1000) to work with my Cyrus CD8SE and Rotel 06 Pre/Power?

I'm pretty new to this, but I've got the CD8SE with a cyrus amp (pretty old) and have matched them with a pair of Spendors S5e's which are now replaced with the A5's. Due to this I got my pair for just less than half original RRP of £1350 and paid just £650 for them! Which was an absolute bargain....I have seen other ads for these in various finishes at approx £750-£800.

I was led to believe that Cyrus kit and Spendor are a very good match and now I have them I can only agree. I listen to a lot of varied music and haven't heard anything but amazing sounds...especially vocals and midrange. Some people say that the bass is not as good as it could be but I can't say that I am disappointed at all.

I have a Cyrus CD8SE along with Cyrus 8vs2 amp and PSX-R. I have them paired with B&W 683's and they sound fabulous together. I tested a number of speakers before buying and the 683's were clear winners. Not sure of the price now but 9 months ago they were £900. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your replies. In a change of heart I have decided to change my amp first. As much as I would like to spend £1500 on the new 8xpd, I was thinking of getting a second hand 8vs2 instead and putting the saving towards new speaker. Has anyone directly compared the 8xp and 8vs2, if so what are the differences? Some additional speaker recommendations would also be appreciated.

I have the 8vs2 and psx-r paired with spendor standmounts. They go very well together, so if you had the floorstanders it would sound great too.

I must say though, when the amp was by itself it sounded good, but when adding the outboard power supply, it gave it more depth, bass and alot more of everything.

You can pick up the amps for about £599 and a psx-r for about £300. Go for it and you will not be disapointed

Little tricky, because there are few floorstanders below a thousand pounds that'll give you the synergy for your system. So the best bet is to look at ex-dem or s/hand monitors, like Spendor SE5's, PMC GB1's or Epos M22. the latter is a little long in the tooth and (I believe no longer made) are of sufficient quality for your set-up.

Looking at brand new, I would seriously consider Neat Motive 2's, which come in below the grand mark.

I demoed B&W 683's and MA GS20's before buying Wilson Benesch Square Ones as although there is less bass, the midrange is beautiful and the top end very clear. Think about Dynaudio or Spendor too.

Many thought that the Monitor Audio RS range was a little too 'toppy' with the Cyrus equipment (which would also be the case with Rotel), so now that the replacement RX series has been smoothed over a bit, the Silver series is now viable option.

Thanks for all your responses I have decided that I will probably have to increase my speaker budget to around £1500, this will allow me to consider Spendor A5's, PMC GB1's or maybe Dynaudios 110/140 and a decent pair of stands. In the meantime I have decided to get hold of a decent 8vs2 and update my speaker cable to something a little more appropriate.
