Hi Forum Members.

I have purchased a Marantz PM8003 & SA8003 for my office. I also have a Musical Fidelty A5 DAB and now a KW DAC (for Streaming Music)

I am looking for a set of speakers for a 5m2 room to get the maximum musical enjoyment out of. I would prefer bookshelfs as I have a spare pair of Custom Design Reference Stands, which could come in use.

I am thinking of the Monitor Audio RX2 - but am not sure about the sonical match of the speakers with the Marantz equipment. Never owned Marantz before.

PS A very respected other Hifi Review claimed that the RX range was just a bit too polite and it robbed the listener from the heart of the action on music (Reminds me of the GS Range maybe?). I wont mention where I read this, but would like to hear peoples opinions for a suitable speaker match & cables.

I listen to RnB and Rock/Pop Music.

Any help is welcomed.

Thanks

Marantz gear to me can sound a but forward and clinical at times

I feel that B&W speakers would calm this down so maybe take a look at the B&W 685's. They'd do very well with your taste in music as well.

Others to consider would be:

M/A RX2's (as you'd suggested)
EB AQcoustic EB1's
Dali Lektor 2's
Arcaydis DM1's

Thx dan1979. Fine speakers in there own right. I have a funny feeling that more higher end speakers like the MA RX2 you mentioned, will be better with the 8003 combo.

As im not aware of the Marantz sound - im struggling to think of speakers to match them.

We tend to match the Marantz with Dali. The 6000 series is a perfect match for the Lektor and the 7000/8000 works well with the Ikon1's or 2's.

From the little I've listened to, the 15s2 amp and SACD player seemed bit clinical and lacking on the bass front (although it seems their reputation is for being fairly warm, so maybe not run in for long enough?).

I was considering the PM and SA 8003. I'd say the What HIFI review is spot on- good bass but seem to be lacking in detail.

I was considering matching them with B&W 685s and they gave a very warm sound with good timbre and bass, and was considering partnering with Nordost or similarly fast cables cables to try and bring out more detail and slam.

I also listened to them with the Lektor 2's and I thought they worked really well. Probably better balanced than the 685s with a bit more air and detail, but it all comes down to preferences.

If you are using your KW dac for streaming, have you thought about using it with your Marantz CD player? it would be a big step up.

Thx for all the advice so far guys. I will play around with the KW dac and CD player. All depends on the sonics of the Marantz. I will have no hesitation in changing the equipment for perhaps Cyrus/Naim if the sonic picture isnt that great. But I will give it plenty of time to run in.

Cheyworth - how have you found the DAC with your Tag Mclaren Source?

Home Cinema Centre - Ive looked at the Dali's - I wish they made better looking speakers

Also its worth considering - its only for my office. Im just after something thats musically rewarding.

Well they do but not at the price point! It may be overkill to try the Dali Menuets for your office. If you go to that level the PMC DB1 is another contender.
