If you are interested to know what 2k - 2.5k GBP worth of speaker sounds like with your amp, you need to go and see what you think at a demo.

Most people reckon that the extra outlay is worth it. Look at brands like Kef, Proac, PMC, Focal, ATC and Spendor.

The speaker that you go for, may well depend on the size of your room, how reflective it is and how far from the walls the speakers will be.

Same advice applies.....go to your dealer and listen to what he has in your price bracket. Only you can make the judgement call as to whether the extra outlay is worth it.

Remember, as you get more revealing components, the quality of the Source becomes a factor. A system should be kept in balance to get the best out of it imo.

I personally would spend good money on speakers as I think they are very important in getting the best sound possible as you get what you pay for in this life so your got a good amp there so match it with some nice speakers but if your happy with what your got there no shame in keeping what your got but demo as many speakers as you can and try to get a home demo as speakers sound different at home then they do in a shop . What's your budget and.are you after book shelf or floor standing speakers if floor standing then I recommend Dali options 6 or 8s that you demo if you do think about changing speakers.

Thanks rick @ musicraft the speakers are black ash finish,i'm happy with sound i just thought they may be a little below par for the amp

Definitely improve the cartridge first. There is actually something very rewarding when you get the best from a fine, but relatively, modest speaker. You are probably doing that, save for the (very) front end.

KEF LS50s might be worth seeking out for an audition if you can live with the looks. They'd be my choice for under £1k, and there are often nearly new ones in Ebay.

Less than £100:- Shure M97xe. A no brainier!

For £130 I'd consider replacing your stylus with a Blue, if you like the current sound.

Beyond that, you might be tempted by a Denon DL-110 which is a high output moving coil. There's also a Clearaudio mm I've never heard but which gets good reviews, for about £150.

I liked the old Goldring 1000 series, and a new 1006 is under £200, though the really nice ones are more - the 1022 or 1042, though they might be too high compliance for your arm.

Audio Technica have a great pedigree, as do Grado, but I'm not too familiar with the current AT lineup and Grados can be a bit under-damped, though they are very musical. Nagaoka is well thought of but seem pricy these days, and I found them a bit subdued when I last heard one.
