Speaker Stands for Tannoy F1 Custom?

Been looking at the Soundstyle Z2, what are the floor spikes for?

Are the spikes ok for wood floor?

The floor spikes are to allow you to make the stands as stable as possible - ie completely rigid. Usually on a wooden floor you;d put little cups underneath them to protect the floor.

As what John said. On carpets, they prevent the speaker from floating around and helping to get the stands to sit level (as carpets have a bit of give and the speaker and stand my be heavier in the front or back). Good spikes are quiet narrow so that they don't damage the carpet.

Does anyone know whether the spikes on the Soundstyle Z2 are removable?

Is it advisable to use them without the spikes if so? Or is it better to use the spike "shoes"?

Hi, They are removable, but if you are going to be using them without the spikes and on floorboards, I would go to B&Q (one of the big stores) and buy a 300mm square slab of granite slab (they do white speckled granite), you can get them for about £4 each.

Apart from looking good under the stands, they stop the bass and other low frequencies going into the floor space and causing a bass box effect.

If I was you, stick a few big blobs of blue tack under each corner of the base of the stands, and stick it to the slabs, as this will stop them being knocked over.

I have them like this in my bedroom, and as the floor in the longe is concrete, just bang the stand hardish and it gives a good base for the stands to sit on.

I have wooden floors and spike shoes like in John's little picture. However, you could equally use coins (2 pence pieces work well) or you could use some felt pads designed to go under furniture (got mine from Robert Dyas) - the spikes sink into them like carpet. The main advantage of this is, it isolates the speaker so it's less susceptible to vibration and thus improves the sound.
