speaker stands filled with sand

i have the mission stancette speaker stands, and the guy at richer sounds said i could fill them with sand. but one channel is for the wires so that only leaves the two channels left, has anyone filled there's ? if so what was the outcome in sound ? thanks

I fill my 1m high surround stands with sand to add a little more weight to them so they are more stable and less likely to fall over if accidently knocked. I very much doubt that filling two tubes per stand will have any influence on sound from your speaker imo

There is (often) an improvement if you do fill the stands with sand. Don't use building sand, it is damp and hard to pour besides. You want to use Kiln dried sand (KDS) and if possible pour it into bags which you have already put in the stands. I used building sand when I was a lad and over the months, dirty sandy water had seaped onto my carpet. Mother was not best pleased! I used shot blasting lead in later years and that is a lot easier to handle (But dear)

Stupid question but why put in a bag if its kiln dried sand ?

Sand is a relatively cheap option but for marginally more money you can fill them with Atacama Atabites which are much better for mass loading (basically lots of interlocking little cone shaped pieces of metal).

As you fill the stands, see how they sound half full and 3/4 full before filling them completely - the more you fill them you should hear an improvement in bass response though you may find half or 3/4 full is enough for your room.
