Hello everyone.

At my old computerroom (in the time when I studied Biology) I have an old Technics SA EX100 stereo receiver with an even older AKAI casettedeck and some ITT speakers.(http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l537/ReijerW/IMG_3619_zps4yt4etof.jpg) and ( http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l537/ReijerW/IMG_3620_zpshmvgydaw.jpg )

Is it possible to use the cabinet to make a set of DIY speakers? The size of the cabinet is 50 cm high, 31 cm wide and 20 cm deep. The cabinet is made of particleboard.

Yes indeed, why not. Assuming the cabinet construction is still basically sound then why not?

If you look at www.wilmslow-audio.co.uk website you see if they have speakers of roughly the same size and have a look at what modern transducers they are using and just buy replacements. If necessary you could replace the cross-over at the same time.

This may, however, not be that economic as the modern equivalent speaker would be obtainable quite cheaply these days.

Having said that the construction of your speakers as of now is very basic indeed and could be improved. Not sure it would be worth doing, truth be told.

PS: not too sure how those speakers were made as they don't appear to have a cross-over unless its mounted on the back plate that is not in photo.

Thanks for the advice.

There is no cross-over filter. The speaker-units are soldered together with some cheap spaghetti. Counting togheter te price of new units and filterparts makes me wander.... Maybe it's beter to sell them on Dutch e-bay and buy a set of audioegine2+.

I would have no idea what you could sell them for but that may be the better option in this case. Perhaps if the cabinet had been a bit more intricately built it might have been worth saving.
