Speaker Dilemma

After recently knocking down walls and making my front room open plan I now have a dilemma as to where to put my front AV speakers. My TV sits on a small section of stud walling. I can mount a speaker to the left okay as the adjoing wall is about three foot away. However, to the right of the TV I have an expanse of space with the nearest mounting surface being six foot away. My choices are:-

1. Mount right speaker on wall and balance accordingly with the amplifier.

2. Put right speaker on stand and just move out everytime I listen to them.

I'm hoping somebody can come up with some suggestions. I would post photos but this feature appears to be restricted.

Thanks in advance.

Hi PJ. Just copy and paste the images from your picture hosting site - though I think they might need to be 400px wide. :)

We can better see what we have to play with then !

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply.

I have uploaded my pictures to http://www.flickr.com/photos/47058832@N07/sets/72157623189873647

btw - Like your photos on your profile. I'm red with envy and I've told my wife we need a 'pad' just like yours!

When we've finished discussing speaker position maybe we can talk about Yamaha AV amps and KEF speakers, as I see you use both of these products.. This is what I'm looking to get.

Cheers

Cant you just drill a hole in the corner of the wall, and put a bracket on right beside the TV then point the speaker towrds you?

If not, stand would be the best best.

What with the door, can that be covered? maybe move the tv over a touch and use stands?

The cupboard under the stairs is in constant use so cannot cover.

If I drill hole in corner of the wall I was thinking the right speaker would be too close to TV and centre speaker. Not sure if this would be a big problem?

Maybe a stand is my only solution and when watching a movie to just move it out to the right.

Thanks

Hi again Criller, and cheers for the nice comp mate. :)

Looking at the pics, I can now see the problem - It's a toughie ! What is on the wall opposite where the TV is situated currently ? (where the pic was taken from). Is there a window there ?

Have you thought about in-ceiling speakers at all ?

As long as your speakers are shielded it wont be a problem, and put the centre right above the TV, this will be fine

Hello "The_Force",

The wall opposite is where we have our sofas. I'm stuck in having the TV where it is.

I had thought about ceiling speakers but I don't want the hassle of taking the floor up to fit them.

How important do you think it is to have "width" between the left and right channels? Should there be a minimum gap between the two?

Cheers
