Im just wondering ..i have a denon mb37 with Q Acoustics
2010

. Does the speaker cable need to be the same length in order to benfit from good cable ..as one cable is only 1m and the other is 6m long ..any info will help thanks ..

Over that kind of difference in length, yes.

I'm curious to know how you have your speakers positioned that you only need a 3' length for one speaker, but nearly 20' for the other?

I'll second that!

Sizzers:Perhaps one's in the lounge with the other running in to the kitchen?

So that the wife can listen to some music when cooking/washing up?

no its where the system is placed its in a cupboard next to the left speaker and the cable for the right speaker is 6metre away ....so what suggestions .place the system on a wall at centre of speakers ..is this is i will beter the sound ...

It's not relevant where your Denon is, but all things being equal you need to have approximately equal speaker lengths.

That kind of difference in speaker length will unbalance your sound and won't match as it should through each speaker.

And I wouldn't suggest coiling and tying them up in the cupboard.

any suggestions .as the left speaker is only half a meter from unit while the other is 6metres away .....just buy cheap cable ..i was thinking of getting chord carnival silver screen ..i would have to get both 6m lengths in order to get best sound from my system or am i just wasting money ... thanks again

Well that's an expensive option so move your micro out of the cupboard (you must have some compromise going on there for positioning!)

i dont really have an option of moving the micro system ..as its stands the left speaker is 6m away while the right one is 1m from the system ..does it effect it that much ..i do want to get the chord silverscreen cable ..should i just get it im and 6m or two 6m cables and run it inside th e cupboard instead of coiling it ..

Nobody has their speakers that far apart unless they live in a concert hall (your living room is over 7m wide!?)

sorry bout this now but it is only 3m away from the system but i will need 5 metre in order to hide the cable ..im putting the speaker the other side of the room .....its costly for a pair of 5m qed silverscreen terminated about 100 euro prices im getting ...

Well the Chord is a thick, solid, unpliable cable, which you really can't run under the carpet. I gave up trying to make it look pretty and just run it across the wall. Might not look to pretty but probably cost me 4 times less!

Let's not get carried away here. I would just fit the correct length cables and use something like Van Damme Blue 1.5mm or 2.5mm. It makes no difference whatsoever. When I first got into hifi, I believed that you had to have the same length of cable, so had metres of the thick stuff behind my right hand speaker. I had had enough of this a couple of years down the line, so cut the cables to the correct length and it made no discernable difference. The likes of Van Damme Blue or Hifi is more than enough for a budget setup esp. a micro hifi. The pro studios use Van Damme and there is plenty of copper. VDCTrading should be able to sort you out.

I know what you mean barryboy. Similar problem in my room. Had to get around a door frame to one of the speakers. The difficulty in fitting Chord silversceen put me right off it. Ended up using a cable from Maplin which isn't bad but just bought some QED 79 strand to see if there's any difference. Not that I'm disappointed with what I use already though. I have a 6m run to the 'far away' speaker, the near speaker is only 1.5m away from the Denon, but with my cable being much thinner and flexible am able to use a 4m length of cable with most of it out of sight on the top shelf. A 2metre difference in speaker lenghts is nothing to worry about.
