Need some help please, just bought a pair of 2nd hand speakers but the links have been removed and lost over time. I'm using QED anniversary xt which is fairly thick, when connecting the terminals I've undone the binding post and popped the lead in the holes from red to red and retightened, same with the black side but when I plug the banana back in I can't pust it all the way home as before. Is this how its meant to be done or do you wrap the speaker lead around the threaded stud like the original link plate was ? Cheers

Thanks for that pete ordered some fork spades so i can have a go and make my own.

Cheers

When I came across this thread I decided to get some jumper leads to replace the metal bars that came with my 684s. I bought them on ebay for £14 and what a difference they've made. The treble had always been fine and natural sounding but also a bit restrained and a little dry. The term that kept coming to mind was "metallic". After connecting the binding posts with the new cables the treble has definitely gained in authority and clarity. They are much sweeter sounding too, more like the Focals I'd had previously. I remember reading somewhere on the forum that someone who also did this felt like he'd upgraded his speakers and I'd certainly agree with that. The change is far more noticeable than when you simply change interconnects.

What's surprising me is why manufacturers use those jumper bars in the first place? I guess it's to save costs but if you want people to enthuse about your wares surely it's worth the small investment to have your speakers sounding their best?
