Evening all,

Only my second post

I have a confined listening area and setup at space at the end of my lounge.

Current setup.
Marantz PM6007
Marantz CD6007
Mission 731pro speakers.

I want to upgrade the speakers and have 2 makes in mind but have been unable to hear either.
ELAC DEBUT 3 DB63
or
TRIANGLE BR02.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

The speakers will be place on a sideboard!

Many thanks.
Tony

Hi Tony,

both alternatives, which you mentioned are very good. For an amp like Marantz PM 6007 with a bit sweater, very musical sound is giid a combination with faster speaker with high sensitivity. So Triangle is the right choice. Than I have a friend using same amp with QAcoustics 3020 speakers + some small sub from Jamo. Also very nice sounding combo. Also Fyne Audio bookshelves like F5E will wiork very well with your Marantz. BR.

That's great.
The Triangles would suit my room better.
I can get a better deal on the ELAX trading in an old set of LINN Tukans, that I've been trying to sell for a while now.!

Thank you.

You'll need to audition for yourself, as only you can choose the right speakers for your preferences. Also, you'll need to try them with your amp to make sure they work well together, and insure the speakers themselves are suitable for your room and their intended placement. Sound complicated? It sort of is, which is why it's always best to audition rather than just blindly order online. If you make the wrong choice now, you'll be back on the market again in a few months after the novelty of the new speakers wear off, losing money on what you're about to pay out. Unless you strike it lucky.
Oooh, the excitement!

Yes that would be ideal but not many people offer this option locally.
I have a 30 day return deal on the Triangles.!

Thank you for the advice.

It just means that if you sit them directly on a sideboard there is a possibility everything will vibrate in sympathy. Some probably even like that.

A few sorbothane domes will probably do the job. There are other, more elaborate and costly ways.

A bit like an audition then! The novelty can work both ways.
Not really. Numerous choices can be compared directly in one space, then any decent sealer will let the customer try their preferred option (or maybe two) at home in their own space. Do it right the first time, rather than just chancing it on other people's preferences and zero listening.

Other options are Monitor Audio Bronze Series and Dali Spektor 2 or 3

My advice is limited by the fact I haven't heard any of the speakers you mention. However, the two things to remember is the room is as important as the speakers when it comes to how they sound. And, getting the positioning of the speakers correct can make a massive difference to how they sound, it doesn't matter how good your speakers are if they are positioned poorly. In the absence of stands, some isolation pads/feet may help.

Following on from the above, I have never seen or heard a pair of Mission 731, but I do have Mission 701 in my bedroom. The notable thing about the (other than how big they are) is how easy they are to position and how forgiving they are to poor positioning. Looking online your 731 have similarities including the front port. If they are as forgiving as the 701's I would be concerned about replacing them without a home audition. You may find speakers that sound great in a listening room but don't work in your room.

Also, remember that although you ae confined to the end of the room, the whole room acoustics come into play.

Finally, I have never heard the TRIANGLE BR02, but the TRIANGLE BR03 are fantastic, and massively underrated, hopefully the little brother is good too!

Great reply.
Thank you.
I got lucky with the 731pro's in the 90's with a decent Yamaha AV Amp that had good music reviews as well at the time.

The Missions are very forgiving and easy to place, aswell as a good sound quality at low volumes.

I do have stands but no room to use them at the moment.

Nostalgia has the better of me and I always think back to the 70's with my uncles Marantz receiver and large celestion speakers.
It sounded fantastic.

I've only found one place to listen to the Triangles and that's in West London.
I'm in town tomorrow so will try and get a demo.

Thanks again for your input.
