Soundbase - confused

Read up the review of the Canton soundbase - but with no Dolby or DTS decoding it won't seem to improve dialog from movies or will it? Also, since my TV doesn't have digital outputs would this still be worth it??

I thought soundbases were just another form of soundbars?

I think they're simpler devices to just give the sound a bit more weight compared to normal LED TV speakers. And you can stand the TV on them. I don't think (m)any are designed to provide surround sound for example, hence not bothering to include DD or DTS and the like.

The Canton does actually offer Dolby Digital decoding, and DTS TruSurround, so can handle surround sound (from TV/set-top box/DVD/Blu-ray), but it's not a substitute for a proper 5.1 system, if that's what you're after.

As The_Lhc notes, it's primarily a discreet solution to better TV sound (plus offers a powerful Bluetooth speaker for music, too).

Clare ok, the tech specs for the review said no Dolby or DTS, I meant to go to their website but forgot.

I've been looking at a soundbar for movie duty, but an equivalent soundbase would be even nicer as I could stack my TV on top.
