Hello All

Could someone possibly explain the the expected difference in sound quality between a 2-way & 2.5-way speaker using identical woofers. What is the benefit in having the exact same frequencies reproduced by an additional driver (asuming of course the crossover is identical on both speakers)?

Many thanks

I think the point is that the cross-overs could not be the same. 2 way speakers have simply one driver for treble and one for bass, with a cross-over that splits the signal at a specific frequency, sending everything above to the tweeter and everything below to the woofer.

In a 2.5 way speaker you'd have 3 drivers although one would typically be occupying a shared mid/bass role, but that would mean that the cross over is sending treble to the tweeter, mid & bass to one woofer and just bass to the other woofer, and hence must be tailored to the purpose.

I don't suppose one is better than the other inherently.
