Sound Card Reviews

As music on computers is becoming a legitimate part of hifi now with lossless audio and DAC’s, has anyone ever reviewed the PC sound cards on the market? What I would like would be reviews of all the big brands and comparisons with DAC’s. Had a quick search round the site and couldn’t find anything. Do people believe Creative Labs and the likes would be able to compete with a dedicated DAC. Obviously for value for money a sound card is much cheaper plus all the onboard surround sound options. Sorry if this has been done before but been thinking about building a media centre PC for music and films and want to know if I need to budget for a DAC.

Really think that is not a Hi-Fi thing, more likely a computer magazine would carry it. After all, the majority of users that have computer music bypass the soundcard and use usb. It's not something i would think would appeal to the majority of readers.

Would the computer magazine look at it from a hifi point of view? They won't have the experience and the facilities to test accurately and give them a good review. If What hifi came out and said the latest creative labs xyz is a good as a DAC magic then I think a lot of people would be interested

After all, if blu ray gets taken over by downloads we could all end up with a one box soloution in our front rooms and all the componets would become very important.
